Wilpattu National Park
Description

Wilpattu National Park is the largest and one of the oldest national parks in Sri Lanka, covering over 1,300 square kilometres of dry zone jungle in the northwest of the island. The park is famous for its unique "villus" ? natural lakes or pools formed by rain water trapped in sandy basins ? which attract incredible concentrations of wildlife. Wilpattu is one of the best places in the world to spot the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. Other residents include Asian elephants, sloth bears, sambar deer, spotted deer, water buffalo, crocodiles, and over 200 species of birds. The park offers a raw, untouched wilderness experience.
