Galle Fort
Description

Galle Fort is a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the city of Galle at the southern tip of Sri Lanka. Originally built by the Portuguese in 1588 and later fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century, the fort is one of the best-preserved colonial sea fortresses in Asia. Within its ramparts lie a treasure trove of Dutch colonial architecture ? churches, warehouses, mansions ? alongside boutique hotels, galleries, cafes, and craft shops. Walking the ramparts at sunset, watching the Indian Ocean crash against the ancient walls, is one of Sri Lanka's most unforgettable experiences.
